The first written text aiming to arrenge working conditions in our country is Dilaver Paşa Regulations; published in 1865.These regulations has arrenged working conditions in coal mines.
An other important text which has been published in 1930 is The Public Health Law.This law has been used in regulation of occupational health and safety since then.More over Our Constitution , Law of Obligations and Law of Business has arrangements for occupational health , job security , social security.Also with its enforcement for occupational health-diseases , work related accidents and encouragment for better working conditions .The Law of Social Insurance Institution should not be dismissed.
In 1945 Social Insurance Company began  to provide  insurance by gathering insurance premium for occupational accidents-diseases .In those years lack of knowledge and information about occupational diseases and impossibility for the instution to benefit from other state hospitals made SII(Social Insurance Company) to establish his first hospital in 1949 ; İstanbul Nişantaşı Occupational Diseases Hospital.
When SII has began to cover insurance of maternety , illness many hospitals has been founded , and this has been changed to a service hospital.In 1970’s physicians charged by SII to investigate and inspect on the field the occupational diseases examined many other developed countries and reported greatness of the problem and the need for the specialized hospitals on this field.
In 1978 two occupational hospitals has been founded in Ankara and İstanbul.These hospitals have been responsible of diagnosis , related insurance decisions on the field of insurance (work disability determination , insurance rights determination), preventive health services mianly for the benefit of instution , mobile health services , education on the field about work related diseases and occupational health.With establishment of these hospitals the variety and number of occupational diseases increased.
Occupational Diseases Hospitals has signed so many firsts in our country; First Business Psychology Laboratory, Work Hygiene Laboratory, Toxicology Laboratory , Advanced Respiratory Function Laboratory and Mobile Occupational Health Labs.And so far some of these labs are unique among in all state hospitals.More over we can easiliy say that these hospitals began to accomodate the idea and effort for healty carrying out of business in the field.
It’s necessary to mention the physicians who contributed in establishment and development of these hospitals ; endeavoured to transfer their knowledge to young physicians and engineers in various fields ; Haldun Sirer , Çağlar Kırçak , Engin Tonguç, Nazif Yeşilleten , Nazmi Özalp , Özkan Kaan Karadağ.And also the data base gathered up by these hospitals have been used in articles and graduatig thesis.
